UN SECURITY COUNCIL VOTES IN FAVOR OF PALESTINIAN STATE

In a landmark vote never before taken by the United Nations Security Council, approval for the establishment of a Palestinian State passed by a vote of 15-14. Shock waves are reverberating throughout Israel and the Israeli people we have talked to this morning are in tears, feeling utterly betrayed and abandoned since the United States presented the resolution.

For those who understand, this is also a very serious moment for the U.S. from a biblical and prophetic standpoint. Is it coincidence that this resolution was passed last night in New York when the National Day of Fasting and Prayer began here in Israel??? I think not. I trust that all of our readers understand what a momentous issue this is.

The resolution, the first the United States has introduced since the latest bloodshed began in September 2000, was approved Tuesday night, winning support from 14 of the 15 council members. Syria abstained, and also called for an immediate cease-fire. Speaking on behalf of Arab nations, Syria's UN Ambassador Mikhail Wehbe said he abstained because the resolution was "very weak" and didn't deal with the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, "the question of the Israeli occupation." Syria abstained, rather that voting against the resolution, "to send a message" and not break the unity of the council, Wehbe said.

US Ambassador John Negroponte countered that it was "a strong resolution on the Middle East," capturing a broad consensus on the goals and next steps in the peace process and speaking out strongly against terrorism. "Our intent in doing this was to give an impulse to peace efforts and to decry violence and terror," he said after the vote. Nasser Al-Kidwa, the Palestinian UN observer, called the resolution important and welcomed the council's first reference to two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side. Even though the Palestinians didn't support everything in the US text, he indicated if he had a vote he would have approved it.

US diplomats said the idea of separate Palestinian and Israeli states was voiced by US Secretary of State Colin Powell in a speech on Nov. 19 in Louisville, Kentucky, and has been echoed by US President George Bush. For once, Israel's UN Ambassador Yehuda Lancry said he could welcome a "balanced" Security Council resolution on the Mideast, which he called "a rare and remarkable" occurrence.

Earlier, Syria had introduced a Palestinian-backed draft resolution that referred to Israel as "the occupying power" and called for it to abide by the Fourth Geneva Convention, which governs the protection of civilians during occupation. Israel claims the land is disputed, not occupied, and maintains the convention does not apply. Both the US and Syrian drafts called for an immediate cessation of violence and a resumption of negotiations. Neither mentioned outside observers to help calm the situation, which Israel opposes. The United States, Israel's closest council ally, dropped the reference to Israeli occupation and the Geneva convention in its draft. It added a demand for the immediate cessation of "all acts of terror," a welcome for Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah's peace initiative, and encouragement for diplomatic efforts by US Anthony Zinni and others. In last minute negotiations, it added a sentence "affirming a vision of a region where two states, Israel and Palestine, live side-by-side within secure and recognized borders."

Since renewed Mideast violence erupted a year-and-a-half ago, the United States has thwarted every effort by the Palestinians to get the Security Council to adopt a resolution that would condemn Israeli actions and create some kind of outside monitoring to help cool tensions. The United States abstained in the only council resolution that was approved. In October 2000, council members condemned the "excessive use of force" against Palestinians and backed an objective investigation into the violence.

FORCE 17 COMMANDER KILLED IN RAMALLAH

Deputy commander of the Palestinian Authority's Presidential Guard, Lt.-Col. Abu Fadi, was killed in a shoot-out with IDF forces in the heart of Ramallah earlier this morning. The gunfight took place in the city's central Manara Square. The presidential guard is led by Abu Awad, considered by Israeli security forces to also head Fatah Tanzim. Tanzim and Force 17 members have killed 15 Israelis in terror attacks since the beginning of the conflict with the Palestinians. There were exchanges of fire between troops and Palestinians throughout the city overnight, according to Israel Radio. The IDF is imposing a curfew in Ramallah.

SHARON AND BEN ELIEZER AT ODDS OVER RAMALLAH

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer clashed at today's security cabinet meeting over whether to continue the IDF's large-scale operation in Ramallah. Sharon was reportedly furious that Ben-Eliezer intended to limit or call off the attacks, despite a previous cabinet decision to continue until a cease-fire was achieved, according to ministers present.

Sharon called for a second vote, but Ben-Eliezer opposed the motion, threatening that the Labor faction would leave the government if the vote went through. "I am not prepared to go down on all fours and give in, we're quitting the government" Ben-Eliezer said, according to Army Radio. "Get out, get out already," Sharon said. "Stop threatening me," the prime minister said, adding, "You all know how it [the vote] will turn out in the end."

Sharon and Ben-Eliezer spoke privately after the defense minister conceded that the vote would go against him.

PRAYER GATHERING

In an hour or two we will be back with photos from the Prayer Vigil. We are leaving now to attend. Please pray for God's protection over this gathering.

Shalom for now,

Hi Barbara,

Yes, Pray! Indeed!

I and many others are joining you in prayer and support for Israel and for President Bush.

I read in the paper today that Israel is mildly in favor of the agreement although they consider it the best the U.N. can do and that the Muslims are rejecting it.

I think that it is clear that the Muslims have never wanted their own territory they just want Israel not to exist.

And how bold of the U.S.A. to sign on to an agreement that gives away land that Belongs to God. Israel is Gods land and He chooses to let His people the Jews live there. I for one am content to live by Gods decisions and I cant endorse one speck of dust in Israels property going for the Gentile Muslims.

Im really appalled at the U.S. and the other countries of the world as they continue to play god themselves in abortion, Israel, and a host of other issues.

Thanks again for the valuable information.

God Bless You,

David

Yes, this is a terrible thing that has
happened to the entire world, for Israel
to have to endure this resolution. I
will say this even the 'finest plans
of man' will not stand against the
power of God.
It has hurt my heart when I read what
UN has done. It's a shame and disgrace
before God and man.

Yes, I'm hurt, too.
I have a friend in D.C. and I asked if he could give these scriptures to the President, adding I really respect the complexities, etc., but--

But I really request they consider these, because I really fear *angering God* in this Palestinian thing:

Joel 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and [for] my heritage Israel, whom they have *scattered among the nations*, and ***parted my land.***

What's ancient history to us is a "moment ago" to God!

Eze 38:18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, [that] ***my fury shall come up in my face.***

Gog is Russia, as you probably know, not us, but I don't want to be among the ones He's so angry at that His fury flies up in His face!

Have the Palestinians ever rescinded their statement of their desire to drive the Jews into the sea? "Does a leopard change its spots?"

I feel bad for everyone over there. But the Jews deserve a homeland and our support.

Not only does the Old Testament warn us, so does the New:

Rom 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, [of] the tribe of Benjamin.

Rom 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

Rom 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.

Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but ***fear: ***

Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, [take heed] lest he also spare not thee.

Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in [his] goodness: otherwise ***thou also shalt be cut off.***
